Sander practises as a Chartered Arbitrator from offices in Toronto and Montreal, hearing cases in English and French in entertainment industry and commercial - corporate matters. Sander provides other dispute resolution and risk management services, working with the parties and their counsel both to design appropriate hybrid methods for the resolution of their particular dispute and as a mediator-facilitator to help them overcome deal negotiation hurdles so that they conclude new agreements and potentially establish new business relationships.
Increasingly, parties to disputes can or will not tolerate a several-year delay before trial, the cost and risk thereof, the risks, costs and delays of appeal, the loss of time, privacy and confidentiality, nor the psychological impact. ADR offers a prompt, party-structured and cost-effective mechanism, and the confidential services of an experienced professional. The parties (in conjunction with their attorneys, should they wish) and the ADR specialist design and control the process, which is conducted on the principles of natural justice, namely, the appearance and practise of fair play. The terms "participatory justice" and "appropriate dispute resolution" are becoming commonplace in the ADR world.
Sander is an arbitrator for the Independent Film & Television Alliance of Los Angeles (formerly, AFMA). He is a Member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (United Kingdom). Sander has been granted Chartered Arbitrator designation by the ADR Institute of Canada, Inc., and has been appointed to its National Roster of Chartered Arbitrators for American Express credit card disputes. He was appointed to the Board of Directors of the ADR Institute of Ontario, Inc. for 2007-2009, and is a member of the Chartered Arbitrator Committee of the ADR Institute of Canada, Inc., which advises this Institute as to granting Chartered Arbitrator status to applicants. Sander is a member of the Dispute Resolution Section of the American Bar Association.
Mr. Justice Benoît Emery of the Superior Court of Quebec recently upheld a lengthy arbitral award which Sander rendered in 2006. See:
